Massachusetts Department of Environmental Protection Comments
"The technology is the Ion Signature quantitative deconvolution software
for GC/MS systems, a new tool developed by Ion Signature Technology, Inc
. The Massachusetts Strategic Envirotechnology Partnership's (STEP)
initial 3rd party evaluation of this technology determined that the
IFD software offers significant benefits to analysts, including: 1)
rapid unambiguous detection of volatile (VOCs) and semivolatile (semiVOCs)
organic compounds in complex environmental samples without sample cleanup,
and 2) generation of data of comparable quality to that produced using
conventional USEPA methods and GC/MS systems."
"At the request of STEP and in cooperation with Ion Signature Technology staff, the GC/MS
Organics Laboratory at WES conducted a side-by-side comparison study of
the GC/MS analysis of unknown DEP compliance/enforcement samples for VOCs
and semiVOCs using the Ion Signature software and Agilent's EnviroQuant data analysis
for these samples. Furthermore, the Ion Signature data analysis was faster and judged
to be superior in identifying target compounds in highly contaminated
samples than EnviroQuant."
